Trumpet tunes Advent calendar?
Well it’s December... can you believe it? I certainly can’t. I just got an idea to do a daily Holiday Tune like an “Advent Calendar for your ears”. These are all first takes, but this time with a bit of better audio and video quality!
This is always one of my favorite tunes that I remember playing fondly with the Quintessential Brass (and my dearly departed friend Karen playing 1st trumpet… she always sounded so marvelous).
I’ll be recording a lot of the clips on my new Christmas present, the ACB by Adams custom Coppernicus “Smaug”. Thankful to have such good gear to play.

Here's today's entry... a bit different for me!
Here’s something I used to do much more often but sadly don’t due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. I am performing a holiday standard “In the Bleak Midwinter” but it’s a bit different today. During many church services I would randomly improvise descants, sometimes with great success and sometimes not so successfully. I think you’ll hear me get a bit to hip at the end but otherwise I hope you enjoy this take on a classic.
For gear heads I am using my Adams A1v2 trumpet and a Ta-FX mouthpiece.
Here's today's entry into my Trumpet Advent Calendar. Of course these are all first takes, but this time with a bit of better audio and video quality!
Here's a nod to one of my favorite holiday trumpet performances. Can you tell who's version I am emulating?
I love that recording and his beautiful sound and hope you enjoy this version as well.
For gearheads I am using my new completely custom Adams Coppernicus (we call it Smaug) and a Ta-TF hybrid mouthpiece.
Kudos to Michael Barkley who's Infinity Microphone I am using and it's honestly the perfect match to the sound in my head! ]I am so Thankful to have such good gear to play. Hope you enjoy this little bit of ear candy. _________________ As of 1/1/2022 ACB will no longer post online here nor monitor TH.

White Christmas
Trumpet Advent #6
6th tune of the series why not play it in 6 keys? They say you really know a tune when you can play it in multiple keys. I was just foolin' around as these are totally off the cuff. Sorry I forgot Db 😉

Here's a nod to one of another of my favorite holiday performances, this one with KC-ties. Can you tell who I'm honoring? For gearheads I am using my new completely custom Adams Coppernicus (we call it Smaug) and a Ta-FX
deep hybrid mouthpiece.

Had to do some catching up here. Great stuff Trent. Very interesting to hear you work off the cuff.
Liked "In the Bleak Midwinter" and "White Christmas" the best of the last four.
Thanks for keeping the project going. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S

Day #7 features me having some fun on the Adams Green Hornet. I wonder why I chose that horn?
Curious about that question too. That is a very breathy horn or so it sounds unless you were just emphasizing that in your playing. It really projects every attack, blurp and splat, so it must require a lot of care. Is it really lightweight? _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S

I'm really enjoying this series, Trent.
BTW, even my 11th or 12th take is not as good as any of your first takes. _________________ GeorgeB

The Christmas Song:
Trumpet (well flugelhorn) Advent Calendar day #8
I had to play one of my favorite songs on one of my favorite horns, the Adams F5 flugelhorn.
As always these Advent songs are first takes only. The only change is I am putting a bit better audio quality on the clips. I hope you enjoy these!

I certainly did! I really enjoyed the improvisational restraint in this one. Very nicely done. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S

The color of the horn and another name for the tune _________________ As of 1/1/2022 ACB will no longer post online here nor monitor TH.

Trumpet Advent Day #9: Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (with the KR Indigo)
These are so much fun to do and I do hope you are enjoying them. Today I wanted to share a clip with a fun horn we have in stock and the amazing KR Indigo (this clip I'm using the regular not the Max) Plunger mute... a must for any trumpeter!
These are always first takes and off the cuff performances. The only thing that's nicer is a bit of better audio quality.

Trent,
I have got to say that you nailed Rudolph. That was fun and very fitting to the style you put to it.
The only criticism I have is that your mouthpiece should have been red not green. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S

Trumpet Advent Calendar Day 10
Will he do the whinny?
Sleigh Ride
Fun and a bit rough due to the only first take, probably-should-have-thought-about-it-before-playing, off the cuff versions these are.
Today's is Sleigh Ride! How many pops gigs did we play this one? Too many? Not any like 2020? Well I didn't really think about this and quickly realized I had never really played some of these sections. Oops.
ALSO a trumpet note. That silly G D C G got me... so after this recording I played it about 1,000 times and it's no longer my nemesis. The shop has really curtailed deep practice work especially these days with the holiday rush (for which I'm extremely grateful) so it felt good to actually work on something beneficial. Maybe I'll record it again knowing I'll actually play that correctly. The end makes up for it a bit (stay till the end!).
Hope you enjoy these. Tomorrow's video will actually be a song I have NEVER played before (but have heard oodles). Interesting journey through this advent calendar!
Cheers,
