Most years this month there is much discussion (OK , some discussion) about the horse whinny....
I guess its a sign of the times....

I love doing the horse whinny . . . missing group rehearsals and live performances. Damned Pandemic!

Merry Christmas everyone!

It's for the best really. Saves the 4 page discussion as to which embouchure is best

When the version by Leroy Anderson and his Pops Orchestra percolated to the top my shuffle playlist last night, I grabbed a trumpet, warmed up briefly with a horse-flap, adjusted the intonation with the saddle, and whinnied out the window. It was strangely satisfying, and I hope it didn't alarm anyone, especially the horse that lives across the street sometimes. I probably sounded a bit like like a donkey (in a stable).

Merry Christmas to all, and comfort and joy in the new year.

Merry Christmas, Friends!

It's not an embouchure, it's a method.
You need to channel the equine spirit.
Be the horse; play like a horse.

The horse-whinney always seemed more urgent in the mythical "before-times". There was always a percussionist cracking a whip about my head and shoulders, or possibly a more devious wooden contraption with a scandalous history in shady vaudeville slapstick comedy.

Now, I know that the editor can correct the whinney in time, and of course, in pitch ("hippotune"), and he can even replace my Equus africanus asinus braying, by flying in a Thoroughbred Equus ferus caballus sample from a midi stud library. It doesn't matter what I play, as long as my electric Santa hat is appropriately goofy and obtuse in the "Brady Bunch" video.

Fahoo fores, dahoo dores, I've been accused of taking the holidays too seriously this year, even by my relatives on Zoom today. My empty bottle of Sekt says otherwise.

When life deals you lemons, simply ask for salt and tequila. I am determined to be happy and optimistic today. (Not to mention supersoulsticiously stir-crazy.) Feliz Navidad!

In terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis, and a happy new year. Let's hope it's a good one, without any fear.

Rough year. No horse whinney, no Handel. Practiced my piccolo for nothing.
