Just read a news blurb that Chick Corea passed away from cancer a couple of days ago at 79. Just made public today.

This is very sad. Chick was one of my favorite jazz composers. Little known facts : Chick's dad was a jazz (dixieland) trumpet player and Chick also dabbled in playing the trumpet.

Chick plays in the trumpet section of Chuck Mangione's Tarantella album. He played drums on Confirmation on his Three Quartets album. A sheer force of music who made the world a better place everywhere he went. Rest In Peace.

We heard the news this evening. My four favorite albums:

- Light As A Feather
- Now He Sings, Now He Sobs
- The Thing To Do (Blue Mitchell!!)
- Innerspace (Woody Shaw!!)

The lady and I are listening to these records this evening and remembering one of the great masters. Cheers, folks.

Yeah, I was going to mention that Chuck Mangione big band album he did. A lot of special guests on that one. Steve Gadd on drums. Nice.

Curious about Chick's trumpet playing. Anyone have any pics or video of him playing the trumpet ? That would be awesome.

40 or so years ago Chick, Dizzy and a few others were guests on either Dinah Shore or Mike Douglas's talk show. Someone mentioned that Chick also played trumpet. Diz handed him his horn and Chick blew a couple of be bop lines. As I recall he sounded pretty damn good.

Unbelievable. I was just watching his Youtube channel the other week; I think he was still putting out new content. Practicing classical music, tinkering on the drums, stuff like that.

I just heard today - MAJOR MAJOR loss! He's always been one of my faves. His playing on 'Light as a Feather' is a textbook on jazz piano comping. If anybody wants to know how to comp - listen to that record.
He will be sorely missed....
