"SOS: Does anyone have experience with the effects of epilepsy treatment on trumpet playing? I am 60 years old and was diagnosed with epilepsy a year ago. As anti-epileptic medication, I took Levetiracetam first and recently changed to Lacosamide. With either drug, my sound shakes in the middle and low registers (from middle G downward), which is driving me crazy. If you have a clue please let me know. Thank you."

Note medical advice is not allowed; you should speak with your doctor.

For "shaky" sound in general relaxed body and smooth airflow usually helps. Relax and drop your shoulders, take a gentle but full breath, and play by "exhaling" into the horn on a middle G or low C with mind focused on the sound you want to play. The hardest part may be getting your mind off the problem and filled with sound instead.
