Trumpet Clinic with Wayne Bergeron
Tuesday March 9 / 7pm EST
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwbN-gEe0sc
Don’t be an Airhead: Common Myths Regarding Breathing Many brass teachings put all (or the lion’s share) of emphasis on air. While air or wind is obviously a major component of making sound, there are other components that are more vital to producing the desired results. Wayne will also address other important factors such as: - Warm up - Aperture (the reed) vs. embouchure - Recovering from injury - Range (Discovering your falsetto endurance) - Musical styles and sounds - Selecting the right tool for the job - Why one mouthpiece does not fill all Wayne Bergeron is a Grammy-nominated artist who has played with everyone from Beyonce to Burt Bacharach. He's worked on over 400 TV and movie soundtracks, and was principal trumpet at Los Angeles' Pantages Theatre for a decade. Co-sponsored by Yamaha Music Canada. _________________ www.michaelbarth.ca

I plan to watch the video, and I'll do 2 things:
listen to what he says, and
watch to see what he is doing. e.g. neck swelling/tightening, cheek and lip adjustments, jaw usage, horn angle, throat under jaw, etc. _________________ Most Important Note ? - the next one !
KNOW (see) what the next note is BEFORE you have to play it.
PLAY the next note 'on time' and 'in rhythm'.
Oh ya, watch the conductor - they set what is 'on time'. |

No debates from me - and yes I watched the entire 2 hours - 1st hour live, and 2nd from the youtube recording earlier today.
Bergeron's 'pedagogy' seems pretty mainstream to me.
I think his '30 second' embouchure/aperture lesson is
'learn how to get your lip opening adjusted so that when you blow air through it, the trumpet will sound the desired note'
(that is MY wording, not Bergerons's)
Of course he went into further details, but no voodoo, magic, or secret sauce. _________________ Most Important Note ? - the next one !
