Here's a shout out for M/K Drawing. And this comment is aimed at only those who are looking to fine-tune their horns and only if they feel a need to do it.

I have had two tuning slides custom made by M/K Drawing. The first on a Bach Commercial and the second on my Shew Z. In both cases, my purpose was to make these horns more "legit" sounding, with the intention of their being more adaptable to solo and sectional "legit" playing. One thing that surprised me, BTW, was that they suggested totally different solutions depending on the horn.

In both cases, I would say that, after replacing with these tuning slides, the horns were about 20% more legit leaning. Not a lot but enough to take the "commercial" edge off.

In the case of the Bach, the goal was to give the horn more flexibility in its use. Mission accomplished. But with the Shew, it was to give the core sound of the horn more depth. As anyone reading my posts has known, my priority on a horn safari was to find a very light horn. Weight mattered. The Shew fit the bill, but I was never satisfied with the sound. It just seemed to me to be missing something. (Obviously. it's good enough for Bobby Shew, so . . ). But it, for me, enhanced the sound.

For those reading the post waiting for a big bang at the end and who are saying. Why did I just read this?". apologies. But for those who might be looking for enhancements to what they have (and it can affect more than the sound), this is an option they might consider.

I’d like to try a slide for my Schilke S42.

I emailed them a few years ago from their website and never got a response, coincidentally just emailed them again yesterday, hopefully they will respond.

Did you slide fit without having to have an adjustment made by a tech? What did they recommend for the Z?

Thanks

Ron

Try beccaatmkdrawing@gmail.com

No fit problems with either,

The Shew is semi-rounded, braceless, in copper, lacquered.

Thanks kehaulani, I’ll try that one.

Interesting about the copper, they don’t even list that as an option on the website, which shows yellow brass, bronze, nickel, and sterling.

Maybe it's bronze. My bad. Looks copper, yellow-brass, whatever.

Don't rely on that, though. Tell them, what you want specifically, and they'll make their suggestions.
