One of my favorite ways to work up into the limits of range is diminished arpeggios. With scales, I tend to incrementally tighten a little for each note and eventually I strangle the air. Major chord arpeggios present constantly changing intervals which adds an extra challenge. The constant minor third interval of the diminished arpeggio gets me up to the limits quickly enough that I don't tire or tighten too much and the constant interval means that it's easier to know exactly where the note should be.

One I like that works more than one skill, a variation on arpeggios - you could call it shifting arpeggios or staggered arpeggios. Tests your range and works on your facility arpeggiating in different keys.

Part 1.

Starting on an arpeggio from low F#

Ascending F# A# C# F#

Go up a half step and descend G D B G

Go up a half step and ascend Ab C Eb Ab

Then descending on an A arpeggio and so on as high as you can go.

Part 2.

Now, start *descending* F# C# A# low F#

Ascending G B D G

And so on.

Also work on various chord types.
