Hey guys, who has used the Harold E. Mitchell "Mitchell on Trumpet" method books, vol 1 thru 4? And for those of you have used them, how did you like them? What did you like about them? And if you did not like them why not? Finally would you recommend it?

"Mitchell on Trumpet" is the most comprehensive all-in-one method I have come across. Highly recommended.

The books are structured based on individual lessons, and there is a lot of well-thought-out material in each lesson. For example, lesson 15 has 16 exercises spread over three pages: Scales (major/minor), arpeggios, intervals, flexibility, rhythm....

Range progresses gradually, but Pappy takes range development seriously. He incorporates range building throughout the lesson rather than just a single exercise. The aforementioned lesson 15 goes up to F#. High C is introduced around lesson 44, Eb around lesson 60, and high G around lesson 78.

As a method, these books are excellent for use with students, and uniquely well-suited for independent study. The lessons cover the "fundamental" bases quite well, and offer clear guidance on what to practice and how to practice it. They are also quite useful as exercise books when you want fresh material to work on. The flexibility studies and interval studies are quite good.
