My Holton ST302 came with thin hard clear washers on the 3rd slide tubes. When they wore out/broke I never bothered to replace them and hardly notice the difference. I briefly tried putting rubber rings there and didn't like the result.
I do like having a tiny rubber o-ring on my stop rod and never noticed any adverse effect. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

My Courtois Evolution II came with the rubber o-rings on the first and third valve slides. I've tried it with the o-rings and without and can't really notice much if any difference. This thread has made me curious about their effect, so I'll do some more testing in the coming days to see if I can notice a discernable difference. _________________ Best Regards,
