A friend showed me this piece before our gig on Saturday, I promptly ordered one on Sunday.

As someone who regularly plays both sax and trumpet (I actually played bass & tenor sax at the gig before laying down some nice double Cs) this is exactly the kind of quackery I look forward to having some fun with!

I am curious about the sound without a mute.

Interesting--I just scrolled to the end and it sounds more saxlike. The player seems to struggle to move smoothly between notes.

I think the Chinese suona instrument might be worth trying. It has a brass bell and uses a reed. I've thought of trying one.

The maker (Keith Bradbury) is definitely a sax player, mainly bari. I am hoping that as the oddball person who more frequently plays both sax and trumpet I can be much more fluid with a little practice!

Wonder if a bassoon reed would work? A lot less work.

If you've ever played a double reed, you'll know why it is a bad idea. It's like 4x the back pressure of a picc!

It's hard to tell from the video but it looks like it might be a C trumpet.

Two wonderful years of oboe in college.
Actually the back pressure wasn't that bad .

I guess with a double reed you would end up with sort of a piston gyaling.
