These valves are claimed to come from a Vintage 1950's Gold Brass King 600.
They look like plastic valve guides. Did they use those back then?

I have seen plastic in late 50s horns. Its also possible to replace brass with plastic. Brass guides wear away the slot in the spring box, causing the rotational freedom of the piston to grow. As that requires major effort to address, I prefer the plastic guides as the wear art. They are easier, cheaper, etc. to replace. The guides could be replacements. _________________ Ron Berndt

Wondering about modifying modern plastic guides to fit 20's Holton brass guides. Is anyone doing those?

The guides Holton used in the 1920s are pretty simplistic in design, but the arms are wide compared to most similar modern plastic guides. It would probably be easier to make them from scratch out of sheet plastic from the hobby store than to convert something. _________________ Ron Berndt

You could also try to replicate the original metal (or plastic) valve guides by using 3D printing in nylon. |
