Adult beginner trumpet player here.
I have some formal music training in my background. Basic theory.
I am curious what you folks suggest for method/fingering type books, etc.
The horn that I just bought came with "Rubank's Elementry Method Cornet or Trumpet " (I had a similar method book 50 years ago starting clarinet in the 4th grade.)
Also there is a book called "New Horizons Concert Band."
I'm hoping I can get up to R.B. Hall level by next year!  |

Rubanks is ok.. old school. the New Horizons book is a band method.
I might suggest Walter Beeler Method for Cornet/Trumpet book 1 - has a variety of things per "lesson".. and goes from beginner stuff to fairly advanced in book 1, then book 2 (and they're super inexpensive)
Heral Mitchell book 1 would also be a good choice.
But with ANY choice, I would HIGHLY suggest you also take a few lessons with a teacher, preferably one that has worked with adult beginners before.
You will have to be diligent, and patient.. the trumpet can be an unforgiving mistress..

We have no music stores in my area any more. |

Rubank is indeed "old school," but I like it. The Beeler is also quite good. With the guidance of a teacher, you could probably do both in parallel.
As for finding teachers, is there a local high school or college with a music program? Those instructors could probably put you in contact with the teacher their students use.
Best of luck! It's quite maddening at times, but also quite rewarding.

I second this. I'm using it now. The coil bound aspect is fantastic. If anything, it progresses a little slower than necessary, but it's cool.
