Has anyone of you ever ordered and played a Wedge mouthpiece? As a trumpet player and an engineer, I was intrigued by their story. I am a comeback player approaching retirement and hoping to play more. Never had a high range above High C, I have always used a Bach 7C and the wedge’s comments about cutting off blood flow to the lip, the swelling I experience and the lack of stamina ( difficulty in higher range after playing for extended time) all resonated with me. I did not see any prior posts on this topic, but if I missed one, I apologize. I will be trying Bach 3C and 1-1/2C soon to see if they improve my high end range. But I am very intrigued by Wedgemouthpiece.com
Any help greatly appreciated. _________________ 1967 Olds Model Super Brass/Silver Plated

Also an Engineer, I have been exclusively a Wedge player for 3 years. In general, they provide all the advantages claimed. There have though been mouthpieces that I did not gel with however, mostly ones with shallower cups. Anything smaller than a S cup just doesn’t work for me.
But give the .665 M cup (closest to 3C I think) a trial. I’m about to order a Pierobon that is very close to this.....I normally play a .65 |

I'm play-testing one now.
First impressions:
- it takes a bit to get used to the specific orientation of the mp (but just a bit)
- fit & finish is excellent
- comfort on the chops is excellent, and my initial impression at this early point is that I can play longer on the Wedge
- the tone and core (both excellent) has its own unique character (went from a Bach 5C/7C to a Wedge 65MV)
- consultation with Dave and service with Daniel is the best.
...but you won't know until you try one. _________________ Bach 239 C

Great mouthpieces and great service. I play the 66 series (Chuck Findley) pieces. After a short adjustment period, they perform as advertised. Highly recommended |

I spoke to Dave and through his advice purchased one last year. The notion that if you're not satisfied you can return it was a big plus for me as that's a sign of a craftsman who has confidence in their product.
Did it feel different to my usual mouthpiece? No not especially.
Did it have positives? Yes, I felt I could play for longer before fatigue kicked in and I liked my sound.
Did it have negatives? Yes, I once or twice went to play thinking the dots were lined up at top and bottom, but learned they were slightly off while playing. Not a nice feeling and I got a little paranoid in checking after that.
Am I still on it? No, but it's in the drawer. I think I needed a little tweaking to the backbore set up and while Dave was happy to go back and forth to find the right match I'm based in the UK and the stress with Customs each time meant I decided against it. In it's current set up it's perfect for my Eb trumpet and might be something I play about with in the future. Is it the future of mouthpiece design? I don't think so, but it's well worth an experiment and I'm glad I tried it! |

Definitely use the search to see previous Wedge discussions.
As for me, I've been playing a Wedge longer than anyone except Dave and his brother. I'm happy to answer any specific questions if you want to discuss. _________________ Pat Shaner

Do you have any backbores laying around? I have a wedge top that I could sell you at a very nice price. Its a 5CC model. So something like a bach 5c with the double oval cup design.
Has a small nick, but no dents. Plating good, hit me up if your interested. |
