Bach 3C vs 3C megatone. Is megatone worth it & if so have you ever gone back to 3C?

I bought one after being on a 3C for years. Somewhat bigger sound due to the larger bb.I found it to be stiff and too dialled in for the flexibility I was used to. Ended up giving it to a young guy that loved it. No accounting for taste I guess. As usual with these things ymmv.
Cheers.

Like Uberopa I found Megatone mouthpieces to be too inflexible for my tastes. I like mass in my mouthpieces, mind you. But the Megatones have a bit much. Had a 3C Megatone trumpet mp in high school and a 1 1/2B Megatone cornet mouthpiece a few years ago. In both cases I switched to a Monette B11, in their traditional blank. The Monette blanks still have some mass, especially the Monette cornet mouthpiece which is incredibly heavy for how small it is, but they are considerably more agile, in my opinion, than the Megatones, my intonation is better on them, and I feel I don't tire out quite as fast on gold-plated mps, although that may just be in my mind.

I concur with this assessment. I played on one a bit in college, a bit later. Felt the same way both times.

Not all heavier mouthpieces are the same. I trialed the Yamaha "GP" blank with the gold rim for a while and thought it was quite nice. I couldn't decide between the 14C4 and the 14B4, shoulda kept them both at the price I had. The 14C4 was a real winner on my Eb Trumpet, too.

The standard Monette blank is pretty similar. I haven't played on them a ton, but they didn't feel stiff like the Megatone.

But, some people like them. I'm glad they exist and give people an option, but not my thing.

I find the megatone mpcs to be an amazing invention. I have a gold plated 3c and an original 3b that are amazing.

Hi, if you want more mass on your 3C you can get a Dennis Wick sleeve. I use one on my Curry 3BC and find that for me it does not change the slotting. You'll have the same mouthpiece while adding mass and you can use it on any mouthpiece you have that it fits.

That might be a more cost efficient way to go about this if it fits on Bach trumpet mouthpieces?

When I used to play a stock 3C I tried and didn't like the Megatone version.
