Not that anyone on this forum necessarily needs this trumpet advocacy, but this article, https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/31/arts/music/classical-music-trumpet-jazz.html?action=click&module=Well&pgtype=Homepage&section=Arts in today's NYT is worth a read and listen. An amazing collection of music, of many styles, and with useful short commentaries. Maybe good to send the link to our suffering partners, children, neighbors, to help them understand why we practice....

Unfortunately it looks like a New York Slime subscription or account is required to view it.

Thanks for this. I've sometimes listened to the other collections they have. It's nice they've done one on trumpet. A lot of the fun for me in midlife has been the music appreciation side.

Tivolian, I can't tell you how much I appreciated this link you put up. I am going to send it to my brother as he would love every selection in the article. We seriously don't know how versatile the trumpet is. I always wanted to hear something by Susan Slaughter and "can she play." Thanks again for a real gift.

I really enjoyed the variety of selections.

Terence Blanchard's Funeral Dirge was particularly evocative for me.

Thanks for this, Tivolian! It’s a great collection of performers, pieces, and recordings — a nice reminder of the menagerie of sounds at a trumpeter’s disposal.

Yes, but sign up for an account is free. I love the article and the recordings presented.

Blanchard released a suite-like album from the music he composed for Spike Lee's documentary. The album is called A Tale of God's Will, and the entire thing is spectacular. Haunting, melancholic, angry, endlessly emotive. The track "Mantra" is particularly extraordinary.

Allow me to echo Subtropical's endorsement on "A Tale of God's Will." FatherCharles, welcome to Trumpet Herald and happy playing/listening.

Thank you both for the recommendation. I purchased "A Tale of God's Will" and have been enjoying it thoroughly.

Terence Blanchard wrote an opera that is going to open the NY Met this season and it's getting all sorts of buzz. Something to keep an ear out for.
