I don't think there are any wrong answers to this question. Anyone scrolling through is going to be inspired to listen to some amazing music.
I would like to enter this one, for my vote. Here's a link, too.
Niklas Eklund, and Susan Ryden. This is some sublime trumpet playing.

I agree.... I like most the places where the voice starts, the trumpet comes in matching perfectly and then the voice leaves so the sound goes from voice to trumpet seamlessly. Don't think that tonal match is possible if piccolo trumpet is used.
This is one of my favorite recordings. |

Sergei Nakariakov
Tine Helseth
Pacho Flores
Caleb Hudson
Chris Coletti
Miroslav Petkov
Omar Tomasoni
Mark Ridenour
Philip Cobb
Philip Smith
Quite a few others, I left no artist out intentionally, and no particular order. These are the players I frequent for lyrical inspiration. Each has their strengths. There are loads of brass band players that also play incredibly lyrically. Somewhat divided between soloist and orchestra players, there is definitely overlap. |

Cannot argue with any of the choices so far. Just a lot of wonderful listening. Glad to see some baroque trumpet here.
I also find the lyricism of Alison Balsom and Iestyn Davies on the same piece of music. The blend is sublime here too. To me the counter tenor voice is just wonderful with the trumpet.

Taking it a step further into historic trumpets to the natural trumpet, a very lyrical player is Julian Zimmermann. For example,

To add to the wonderful list of lyrical modern trumpet players, we have been treated to some really wonderful lyrical playing by Jim Wilt (@mrclean), who is here on TH, during the COVID era. See the 56 wonderful pages of etudes in the From the Safety of My Practice Room thread. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S

Can't disagree with any of these, some incredible trumpet players on this list. I'm not sure how to quantify THE best, but...
I'd add: WIFF RUDD |

I love Nakariakov, but I think of his playing as more technical, than lyrical. He's never been the player I've reached for looking for lyrical interpretations. |

So many good ones, in here...I wanted to post this one, as others are suggesting Balsom. Her sound, and lyricism are soooo good.

Everything is subjective, of course, but have you checked out his recent recordings/videos? The album "Widmung" in particular is some of the most expressive trumpet/flugelhorn playing I’ve heard. His early albums are an incredible technical showcase. |

Another vote for Sergei here, his current lyrical playing is at a level I’ve not heard anyone else reach. |

There are ao many great players listed already. My vote would be Phil Collins from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He's retired from the Orchestra now, but is on many dozens of recordings with the CSO and Cincinnati Pops Orchestra.
Their recordings of Copland's Quiet City and Mahler 9 are 2 of my favorite examples, along with countless pops recordings with beautiful film score melodies. Just stunning!! Check him out! _________________ Dave
