That’s funny Andy - I did exactly the same thing.

If you like keeping information in print form - there's also "A Timeline of Trumpets". I don't get into the details of French sound to this extent, but there is a lot more in it regarding the history, when makers offered French models (and who), and so on including the Bach periods chart in the back that mentions when Bach tried to copy Besson as well as his early French model option. _________________ Ron Berndt

The original Benge 3 bell has a Brevete heritage and is thus similar, however when BAC received the Benge mandrels from Kanstul, there were at least 5 Benge 3s - and not all the same dimensionally. So that further complicates making any comparison like this, as it is probable that not all Benge 3 horns have the same bell. | This is correct Ron, and great info by the way! I've only played one 6x but my guess would be this
or the CG being most similar to the Meha. I also have an actual French Brevete (1942) and in my
collection the only Benge that comes close is the 1941 Chicago 3x in look, feel, and sound. |

One of my favorite trumpets was my Kanstul Brevette. It was a .460 bore.
The Meha is a .464 bore. These are early models.
I also had a Kanstul Meha C in .464. Made it into a tuning bell model, it already had 3 leadpipes.
Both were great horns. I was a dealer at the time.. Zig told me that the major difference in the Meha and Brevette was the bell. The Besson was taking over
the American market and American music store dealers had the Besson banned. Madame Besson then sent the Meha with its big bore and big bell to get around the ban.
These are still wanted horns.
I have Bachs now, but still wish I had the Brevette. Great for average every day use. _________________ Steve Hollahan
