I would appreciate comments from everyone but I am particularly interested in what our friends from The United Kingdom and Europe have to say...
If my family and I were to, hypothetically, relocate to England, what instruments should I bring? I am thinking Bb, C, pic and possibly flügelhorn. I would just be looking for playing in a brass quintet, brass band or big band. I played professionally for many years but I'm not looking to gig any more...I just want to find some casual playing situations.
My daily player is a Mt. Vernon 72*...would I also need a 37 to blend in with English players? Thank you for your opinions and consideration... |

Those would be fine, although for Brass Band you’d need a cornet. You would probably be ok without the C trumpet, unless you were doing a lot of orchestral stuff. _________________ "Nearly as good as I need to be. Not nearly as good as I want to be".

I'd always have an Eb in my bag if I wanted to do small ensemble stuff too. I've found that much more useful than a C here in blighty. |

I have not experienced a situation in the UK where there has been an expectation for a particular brand or model of trumpet.
Bring whatever you prefer playing and enjoy! |

Wouldn't you need a Herald Trumpet for all those ceremonial gigs?
You know what they say:

Thank you, everyone for your responses. I know that I will eventually need a cornet but I will find one over there. Brassnose, I like how you think! My wife would snap her cap if I brought everything with me...too many horns, mouthpieces, etc. |

That makes me wonder how upset my wife would be if I left with all my gear - as long as I took all my horns, repair gear, mutes, music, cases with me.
I'm not going to suggest it, just in case she welcomes the idea Of course, I doubt she'd join me lol
I know she likes it when I play the piano (in the house)...trumpet (though I'm far more proficient and practice in my garden office)...not so sure! |
