I started on an Olds 3 about 1961 with my new Ambassador cornet, and I really (unintentionally) beat that mouthpiece up, even tried sandpaper to smooth out the dents on the rim from it falling on the ground (my dad made me practice outside or in the open barn). So I was glad to finally get that Bach piece about 3 years later. But in the last 25 or so years, I have gotten back to Olds Cornets (7 different models, currently) and trumpets, and have added a few nice mouthpieces, so for old time's sake, I occasionally try the Olds mouthpieces, and agree the 3 (as opposed to the 3C) is a nice "American cornet mouthliece". But I do see some inconsistencies, with some having flatter rims than others. The Olds 3 series have pretty wide rims, anyway, which can be very comfortable, but the cup is a bit small for my current preference. _________________ huntman10
