Anyone have a honk on one of these yet? Seems interesting. You can get it with a variety of rims, though his personal model uses a Bach 6 rim. |

I know you asked a while ago but I just got a 42 rim version of this and have tried it. The cup is v shaped and fairly deep. In spite of this, it is easy to play, and has a ton of color. Easy to make it play darker or brighter. Even though the cup is on the deep side, my range isn't worse I like it.
Unfortunately... I am not a great player and I suspect my opinion isn't the most informed on this matter. |

I really like it.
While its not my number one piece, I like it for chamber settings, and solo settings.
It's really even, colourful, and responsive.
I really value this tool in my kit. _________________ Zony |

I received my own take on the Boom piece with a Reeves 41 Rim in November. I have played it a bit, but with a busy holiday calendar, I haven't had a lot of time to devote to seriously working out a new piece. My initial thoughts are that this will be a very good all around piece and I plan to put a lot of time on it at the first of the year. I play Reeves exclusively and have since 1971-72 with nothing but the best of experiences. I am not a gambler by nature and John Snell has really taken the time to listen and help me figure out my specific needs, expertly filling those requirements from my experience! I am certain this one will be in regular use soon!

How does this differ from a stock Reeves piece of basically the same parameters? _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Yes, I've read the promotional material. I was asking as the OP did, has anyone played one? _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

According to the developers, it is a variant of the Reeves B cup, "a deep hybrid bowl/v-shaped cup. The backbore on the Boom is a new creation that we are still working on describing. It is in the same ballpark of size as the 692, but has a quicker attack and more brilliance in the tone ".
I began working out with the 41BOOM during the last few days leading up to Christmas with a goal to brighten up the characteristic Gold brass bell darkness of the Xeno RGS as an alternate to the 41B692 so I could use it in a wider variety of playing situations. That combination hasn't, so far, produced the sound I am searching for. Staying optimistic and not letting a great piece collect dust, I am currently pairing with the Benge, and after 5 days of serious application, I think I'm on the right track. I played a Reeves 41S695 and later a 41C692 with the Benge for a very long time, very happy with the results, and the BOOM brings another interesting shade to that Benge sound. I think the deep V cup has a great feel, giving a little room and with appropriate resistance. It usually takes a lot of play time to get moved in to a new piece from past experience, so I'll revisit my other horns, especially the Xeno, with this piece again. Time will tell.
Happy New Year,
