Old, 16xx serial, nicely engraved, looks to be in great, original condition.

Too expensive for me but it looks like a nice example. I would love to have it but would be limited to about 1/2 the current bid. Hope they pack it adequately.

A 1931 Bach in what we presume to be untouched condition - yeah, pretty rare example to study. I hope no one wants to modify it into a 180 .....

It's cool from a collectible perspective. It's not something I'd buy, but there's a neat bit of history there that's certainly very interesting.

That mouthpiece looks like someone dragged it across concrete.

Yes I was watching that auction for fun!

Some of the higher end horns at shopgoodwill go for crazy prices - especially because they do not attest to overall condition.

It's pretty but that's far too expensive. I thought that site was supposed to be for deals...

Here is an “eBay stunner”. A “1942 vintage Martin Committee Handcraft” for restoration sold for what appears to be $499.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/363570395989

Edit / follow up:
There was only one bid, but it was for $1,500. I would guess this was the reserve price, buy it now price, or was negotiated with the seller. This was apparently a new listing this morning.

There were only around 25 of these engraved Bach's ever made. And it's gold plated.

I never considered gold plating to add that much to the resale value. Am I wrong?

Only around 25 of the heavily engraved ones ever made? Is that true? I am not doubting you as much as I am surprised. I would not have expected so few.

That is what was said over on one of the threads on Facebook about this instrument.

We can't get a close look at everything, but the horn doesn't appear to have overhauled, and the plating looks original. I'm not sure the buyer overpayed, especially if the valves are decent. Really hard to find one that old that hasn't been messed with or worn out.

This is another one that's probably worth what they paid for it - doesn't look as if it has had any work done to it - always more desirable.

One of the best Martins I ever worked on was a Handcraft from 1940, model 1, small bore. That thing played like crazy. I'm of the belief that the inside tuning crook "rib" brace is one of the secrets of why those early Martins play the way they do.

Here is what looks like an Olds Super trumpet going for $1621 or more. Too bad my Olds Super cornets aren't worth a fraction of that.

Thank you for pointing out that "rib" brace, Lionel! I never paid much attention to that feature of the 40's Handcraft. Very interesting!
