1904 Conn Cornet?

There is a rather intriguing Conn cornet on eBay, where the leadpipe enters the second valve and the connection to the bell comes from the third valve.

Could someone explain the design and airflow as it is something I've never encountered?

Probably Conn marketing. It followed previous designs - but let them speak for themselves:
