Does use of a practice mute negatively impact range? |

Didn't affect mine. What are the limits of the range you're talking about? _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Thanks kehaulani.
I'm having trouble playing above the staff. Probably more the player than the mute. |

No. I use a sshh on trumpet, flugel, and bass trumpet and my range is the same. For me range primarily depends on the quality of the warm-up. I top out at high G, sometimes A. Playable range on long gigs is a high D or E.
The only thing I have noticed with the sshh is that you can’t do a power play with high notes, you’ll have to back off to make the notes sound. With an open trumpet you can push more. _________________ 2019 Martin Schmidt eXcellence
