I picked up a 1947 LA olds super with what looks to be original lacquer. The only interesting thing is that It doesn't have any slide adjustment rings or mounts for them. I looked online and found no other super that looked that way. Any ideas? |

I have never seen an Olds Super that did not have a mount for a third valve slide ring. The ring could be replaced with a music holder for marching. I’ve also seen many pre war Supers with a similar mount for a saddle on the first valve slide. Older Supers also had a brace on the main slide that is not present on later horns. I suspect, in the case if your horn, the mount for the ring was removed during a repair sometime in the past or perhaps the slide is not original to the horn. |

Another thing I thought of. The third valve slide on my middle 50’s Super and others I’ve seen is composed of two sections, a tuning slide with a water key on the end and an easy sliding section that is moved in and out using the slide ring. |

This is the same on this particular olds super. The other item I had noticed was the knubs on the 1st and 2nd valve slides are different than any other super ive seen. Stumped... _________________ 1948 Olds Super

Someone has changed several parts on this horn sometime in the past. The MOP pearl nibs are gone from the 1st and 2nd slides. You can assume the receiver for the 3rd slide ring rod and lyre was removed at the same time. _________________ "There is no necessity for deadly strife" A. Lincoln 1860

Any ideas why It would come without the slide adjustment ring? _________________ 1948 Olds Super

The horn looks relacquered, so someone might have just taken it off and refinished it without the adjustable 3rd slide attachment. Olds did custom orders, so it could have been ordered like that from the factory. |
