Does anyone else spend part of their practice muted to avoid irritating other people in the house?

I do. I use Emo and Soulo adjustable cup mutes. Not the best way to practice but better than losing endurance by not playing at all. _________________ Jim Hatfield

I am a comeback player, so, I did long tones 19/30 starting on the C in the staff. The some half notes moving from E to E in the staff. Practicing articulation. Been building emboucure strength and range for 3 weeks now. _________________ Wade

Just a short practice session today, as I was scheduled to play two Christmas Eve services, but the new number for me this year was an arrangement of "Ave Maria" (Gounod/ Bach) for piano, violin, horn, piccolo trumpet and Bb trumpet. It came off really well at the 4:30 service - one more to go at 10PM.

Getting ready to start back up. Haven't played a lick since Easter Sunday when I had a Cerebellar Stroke in the middle of the night. Very thankful to be here still. _________________ Schilke X3 Bb trumpet

Trying to recover from a (hopefully) temporary over use fatigue. Playing mostly BE lip slurs (progressive), the Frink integrated Warm ups , BE double pedals, some Caruso, more BE stuff, Bolvin’s progressive Schlossberg etc etc - everything very softly and carefully.
Slowly regaining - which by the way I hope goes in the same direction for you Russel D! In the middle of the night - what a frightening experience!
My late dad always told me ” you gotta fight ”it” the very best you can”.
We trumpeters seem to be endowned with true grit. How else to explain our peculiar pursuit? Day in day out year in year out…..always trying to get better playing that horn…
Anyway: A Merry Christmas and a far better New Year. _________________ Cornets: mp 143D3/ DW Ultra 1,5 C

Some warm up and technical stuff this morning. Long tones, lip slurs, tonguing, and fingering exercises. Probably something more musical, this afternoon. |
