Our loss that he only makes trombones now. Nice guy to work with. I contributed to some of his mortgage payments in the late 80's and early 90's.

I know Roy stopped making trumpets, and is in TN now.

Can anybody tell me where his FL shops were? I remember going to his shop in 2004ish. Was it near Lake Mary?

I visited his shop in the Fall of 2004. Rural area, but the city/town was Geneva if I remember correctly.I looked on the map and it’s not far from Lake Mary.

Wonderful guy, superb craftsman, and his wife Tish couldn’t have been nicer as well. I still play the cornet he built for me.

Thanks Matt! Geneva was the shop I had been to. Just couldn’t remember!

Roy made trumpets and flugelhorns at several locations on the north side of the Orlando area. My dates from memory might be a year or two off. He started making complete trumpets around 1987 in a strip center in Longwood. Moved to Lake Mary for a short time about 1990 and then back to that original strip center in Longwood. Along the way he also tinkered with cars. He was a "car buff". Around 2002 he moved into a large free standing building his dad had bought to store antique cars, still in Longwood. About 2004 he moved to "the country" across the street from Lake Harney in Geneva, FL where his wife, Tysh, boarded horses. They moved to Decatur, TN about 2005. After a few years they moved to Flat Creek, TN from where he finished out his trumpet making career. His horns bore the names of the towns where they were made. Longwood, Geneva, Decatur and Flat Creek. I don't think he made horns that he in-scripted with Lake Mary.

I had a 1992 Longwood Lawler........great player and unique. Should have never sold it. #0182. The palm trees on the bell were a nice touch.

I owned each of Roy's horns at one time or another and there are several I would like to play again just to see how I would like them now, after 10 to 20 years. The "Brief Case" horn with detachable bell was unique and my memory says it was a great player as well as a unique design. That was before Getzen valves, however.

Same here. I've owned two, though the second one I didn't get along with very well. Mine were both Kanstul valve sections.

I had what was probably his first attempt at a C trumpet, an early 90's Bb made with the Blessing valves, and a large bore pic. Roy also did extensive modifications on two or three other trumpets. I didn't pay off his mortgage but I did keep him in lunch money for a few years.

Anyone else remember his '"square bell" trumpet at ITG in the 90"s? The amazing thing was not how well it played but that it played at all.

Roy is rare in the world today. Such a decent guy who (did) make fine instruments. I was surprised to hear him say he was a french horn player not a trumpet player although he sounded fine when he demonstrated the horns.

Let's hope he got paid from Wayne Newton. I'm sure Roy was not worried about that with his religion so strong.

Christianity is indeed strong and genuine in this man, not just nominal. His instruments are really nice and so is he.
I visited his shop in Tennessee twice and talked on the phone several times. He's the kind of person that makes me examine my own attitudes and actions.
