There is a lot of great information on this site but it’s very difficult to navigate. For example, you can’t post photos (except on the marketplace).
Other sites offer a much more sophisticated platform. They pay for it by charging membership fees and by selling ads. Members get ad-free access.

There's absolutely no incentive to doing this. This site is next to dead anyway...most of the meaningful "online trumpet content" has moved to Facebook.

The times, they are a'changin'. It's not good, it's not bad. It just is.

I read the new posts once or twice a day, like I do for a few news sites, but if a charge was introduced I would not use it.

The charge would just be for those wishing to remove the ads (at the top and bottom of the page). If the ads don't bother you, then you wouldn't have to pay a penny...or a pence!

Do the facebook sites have locations where all sub-topics are gathered? The only thing I see of fb is linear and searching previous posts of certain topics is a nightmare.

As a free software advocate (https://www.fsf.org), I'm very glad to see that TH loads correctly using a free web browser with NoScript, which blocks javascript and other potentially proprietary/malicious components. I'm using Tor Browser now without issues.

I choose to disagree. Facebook is bad. Probably the most evil website there is. Unless you don't mind the world knowing how often you change your socks (and more).

I will not buy from any vendor who's only net presence is on Facebook. Period.

Gary.

PS: One of many: https://dailymom.com/shine/why-you-should-delete-your-social-media/ Get off Facebook and you'll have time to actually practice instead of talking about it.

Hardly notice the adverts. As the saying goes, ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’.

I appreciate that this resource is here, with long-time contributors whose opinions I respect. I will happily deal with the picture-hosting issues (mostly by not bothering, but that's just me), search limitations, and ads, for the community that herein exists.

If you can't stand it, create something better and deal with hosting it yourself.

Traffic and posting to the site are way down. I think the main issue is the site isn't responsive to mobile browsers.
Who is the site owner?

Emailed him. He's working on an update that he hopes to have ready by the end of summer.

There's something "meaningful" on Facebook?

Actually, seriously, where is this meaningful trumpet content on FB?

I really do not mind the primitive format of TH. It is better than any site with tons of pop-up advertising, sidebar advertising, inline advertising, etc. The text format is fine for conveying most of what is said here. Don't need the glitz of other sites.

This. Bold type emphasis added by me.

I too am satisfied with the current format, even with it’s limitations. I use either my iPhone or iPad the vast majority of the time and don’t find issues when compared to my browser on my pc.

That said, I think this site needs to evolve to remain relevant to newer generations. I would hate to see the site die out as the current members die off.

I think there are things about the format are clunky.

I don't know what's involved but there have been times when I could have used an easy cut&paste feature like photos and graphics do on fb. The downside of that is that it might encourage the lure by some of posting irrelevant photos and graphics just because they can. Annoying and takes up way too much space.

The Search function sucks. And I don't throw this word around loosely.

Also, I wouldn't want to do the conversion/upgrade of this Forum, much less take the time and effort to Administer and Monitor this site. So, I appreciate the effort at the same time as I'm dissatisfied with it.

just think of the site as a landline
it works no matter what

no bells
no whistles
no frills

some inconveniences.......yes
but it works
just like an Olds Ambassador

leave it alone
