I just came across this: https://www.facebook.com/CarolBrass-Wind-Instruments-144551498918614/photos/pcb.7637334916306864/7637330619640627

This is the new Giuffredi model by CB and the thing that I find interesting is the fact that the valve casing appears to be bronze/gold brass/red brass (judging by the color). This would be a first for CB or am I mistaken?

For someone like me who always has issues with red rot (yes I do clean my horns) this could be interesting.

OK, just answering my own question. Further down on the same site CB states that they used a Cu/Ni alloy for the casing. Interesting.

Just as a general observation Carolbrass does seem to like to play around with different alloys; they have trumpet models that are almost entirely phosphor bronze, for example, or almost entirely red brass - I think including the valve casing (but am not positive). And many of their horns are available with a sterling silver leadpipe, which obviously does not rot out. I've never tried any of their trumpets (my Manchester flugel is made by them) but it is all interesting. A friend test-drove an almost-all-red-brass Carol trumpet a few months ago and sounded gorgeous on it - rich, lush, lyrical, warm - but ultimately wound up with a Yammie of some sort.

Yeah, CB has been on my radar for a long time. I am especially interested in their cornets, but have no use for one (and no money …) at the moment. Being able to select all sorts of materials is half the fun for a materials scientist 🤩

Will see how all my different ideas and wishes and funding hopes come along in the future.

I hear you. I am fascinated by the different materials that have been used over the years in horn manufacturing. Given an unlimited budget I would have trumpets in every conceivable alloy just for fun. Like I would buy an old Reynolds Argenta simply because the entire thing was nickel - not nickel plated, solid nickel - and I'm curious how that would be to play.

As long as we're talking cornets let me put in a word for just getting an excellent condition used Connstellation. There's endless debate over whether the leadpipe and bell under the nickel plated are copper (Coprion in Conn-speak) or copper over brass (Electro-D in Conn-speak) but the one I picked up was and is completely free from rot AND feels like it was built to last centuries. Intonation is solid and with different mouthpiece depths it can sound like anything from early Louis Armstrong to a flugelhorn.

Of all the Carol horns i've tried only the 5000 large bell stands out as a "particular trumpet". Sadly is not in production anymore (only the "small" 37 like bell is available).
This is only for my limited experience of the few trumptes i've been able to play.

Actually, plenty of Carol models still utilize their larger bell, including the horn the OP posted about.

Carol trumpets are truly 'sleeper' horns. They have an endless amount a models to choose from, and their quality is as good as any horn maker.

I know, but "that" silver plated 5000 with 72like bell was something special, price included. I wonder why is not produced anymore while the lacquered 37like is (good trumpet but -imho- nothing special).
Let's see if this Giuffredi model will live up to expectations.

@subtropical, yes, this is it. I have been looking at the Reynolds Argenta and the Olds Opera for the very same reasons. Alternatively, AR Resonance or Baumann can build you a nickel horn, but they are slightly pricier

The model you're referring to is still produced:

https://trevorjonesltd.co.uk/shop/product/carolbrass-ctr-5000l-ylt-bb-l-trumpet/

https://www.carolbrass.com/show_products.aspx?getId=9A464C339A24D76A&getId1=59C956552B3C38AE&getId2=A88F451FBB60FCEC&getId3=CE79DC4D0C85500F&getId4=E04BDC79D2946113

If you just mean it's hard to find in Silver Plate then that's a bit different. You can always just order one with any finish you like through a dealer.

No it isn't: the model you linked from the Carol official site is the 37 bell version in lacquer.
The model from the trevorjones site is listed as the L (72) bell model but the picture is the same of the 37 bell model so i think there's a mistake in description.

This horn is on their website, and has the 72 style bell:

https://www.carolbrass.com/show_products.aspx?getId=9A464C339A24D76A&getId1=59C956552B3C38AE&getId2=A88F451FBB60FCEC&getId3=CE79DC4D0C85500F&getId4=0BB7385864207B31

This also has that bell in gold brass. Looks sweet!

https://www.kesslerandsons.com/product/carol-brass-5280l-glt-trumpet/

I believe they their "Blackhawk" horn has this bell.

Carol will make anything you want. Just send the right model number.

(TH doesn't like the pdf link, so you will need to copy/paste)

I ordered a custom 5.25 inch rose brass "72" bell in scratched lacquer for my tuning bell horn a while back (and a bunch of other stuff). I just contacted Doug Teeter here in the TH marketplace and everything came direct from the factory in a few weeks.

Sorry, I copied the wrong link. Here it is:
https://www.carolbrass.com/show_products.aspx?getId=9A464C339A24D76A&getId1=59C956552B3C38AE&getId2=A88F451FBB60FCEC&getId3=CE79DC4D0C85500F&getId4=0BB7385864207B31

The "L" in YLT stands for "Large Bell" which is their 72 style bell. It's still in production.

I believe (but am not certain) that while the Argenta is solid nickel, the Olds Opera is only nickel-plated, much as the Connstellations were nickel-plated.

To be honest, I am not sure either, the web has conflicting info and over here I know nobody playing Olds, so I can’t ask.

There is also the Hüttl Silver Colibri that comes up occasionally here, which is said to have a solid nickel silver bell. Maybe, but I have also seen photos where there seems to be brass underneath what looks to be nickel silver. Questions, questions …

Clearly though, there are folks that could build nickel silver instruments, but new those will be pricey. Here is someone who builds everything from nickel silver: https://www.musikinstrumente-neusilber.de/Musikinstrumente.html Poor website, but good instruments as far as I hear.

The Olds Opera "Premiere" was not nickel-plated. Here's a picture from the 1962 catalog, showing an accurate indication of the various alloys:

http://rouses.net/trumpet/olds62/operatru.htm

And the catalog does say, "nickel-silver."

However, there was also an Opera "Fanfare" model which didn't have the nickel-silver bell. The Opera Fanfare is included on this 1960 price list, but no details are given (except that it was $30.50 cheaper than the nickel-silver version):

I asked Thomann.de here in Germany and they won't be offering this model. They offer hundreds of Carol Brass instruments but not this one. Search results yield nothing other than U.S. dealers. How can I get my meat hooks on one?

Won't Thomann bring one in for you if you ask?
They have custom-ordered me stuff, and I'm nowhere near Germany.

Anyway, if not, e-mail Anne Huang at office@carolbrass.com
One way or another she will get you sorted.
