Hello everyone, since marching season is approaching, and I'd upgraded to a silver-plated Xeno over this year, I was wondering what gloves would work well in terms of comfort and safety for my horn. _________________ Xeno 8335US

Don't you have to find out from your band director if your uniform dress uses gloves or not? _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Hi, gloves may work, but may also get slippery. let's not forget sweating during those long all day band camp rehearsals outside. There were days when I had to peal the glove and uniform off.
When I was in a Marine band years ago, here's what some of us did to keep our silver plated horns inspection ready. Well, on the outside anyway. We had a spray bottle with a half and half mixture of Windex and water. At the end of the day or rehearsal, spray the horn and gently wipe dry with a very soft or microfiber cloth. Get all the sweat and dirt off (if you're laying the horn down on the ground when working drill). We didn't have microfiber back then, but a diaper or old t-shirt worked well.
Hope this helps,

Exactly.
Find a Besson 609, Olds Ambassador, or Getzen 300 to march with.
And when the football players start laughing you can beat them with it without damaging it.

I agree with this also. I would get an older horn and did see an older Yamaha 600 series for sale recently at a good price. Olds Ambassadors are easy to find too as are some other horns that will hold up. But a Xono? The first time it falls of the bleachers or you collide with a tuba player, !@@#. But, a repair tech will be happy.
I did march with my own horn while in the military bands. It was a Benge 6X I got in a pawn shop for $200. Wish I still had it, I wore it out.
