Someone do not be scandalized. When you ask for the instrumentation of a musician, there is always someone who shouts loudly. Who knows Wallace Roney jr. instrumentation, especially his mouthpiece?

This is what he was playing towards the end of his life. A Kanstul copy of a Martin Committee and Heim mouthpiece.

Judging by a Google search, different horns and mouthpieces for Jr. I like to know what my favorite artists play too, but it's usually a moving target.

Picture One

Video

Picture two

One of them looks like a hybrid horn with committee parts or body and a Schilke HC2 bell.

Picture #2 is a Schilke HC2 with Martin Committee keys, and what looks like some nickel trim on the tuning slide. No doubt Wallace Roney Sr.’s personal horn, as Schilke doesn’t offer customizations of this sort. Pic #1 I’m less sure of, but I’d guess it’s a Yamaha of some variety with a new bell.

Wally came into the shop a few weeks ago and was playing an ACB TA1, we got him setup with a Greg Black NY5S and a 5*0 backbore

Why? I'm asking because I have an ACB TA1.

There's YouTube footage of him when he was still in high school, playing in the Essentially Ellington concert.

It's a joy to watch his growth as a trumpet player. Back in those days, you can tell he was trying to sound more like his father (can't blame him for that). He doesn't sound like that as much anymore. He can really play.
