Has anyone got a copy of the trumpet parts to Legally Blonde the Musical I could take a look at, please?

I’ve been asked if I could play in the pit for this show, but would like to see if it’s within my abilities, before I give them an answer. They won’t be renting the music until nearer the show start date.

Thanks

Illegal to distribute of course, but you can easily find it by Googling "legally blonde the musical trumpet sheet music"

Trumpet I requires a good solid F.

Thanks. That’s a no then. D, or E at a push. Not confident enough for the F

Yeah, but if it's a community group or something similar it would probably be fine for you to take things down an octave.

Better the right rhythm/style in a lower octave than itch and splat above your control.

I have, at times, chosen to drop the octave when the pit orchestra is small, trying to be quieter, and/or the higher tesatura seems out of place.

Play musically and provide a solid underpinning for the cast.

Thanks, I might tell them I’ll play second part. (Assuming it’s mostly lower).

I subbed a bunch on the B'way run plus done several high school, college & regional productions.

Lots of Cs, Ds, Es and Fs. An A & I think a couple of Gs. The original key for the end of #11 "So Much Better" was a dubba Bb to dubba Ab. In the licensed versions it's written as 2 Ds with optional dubba A to dubba G.

A change that was made after the OBCR was done is in #6 "Positive." If you listen to the OBCR the last 3 notes are As above the staff. After the recording that was changed to A E dubba A.

The 1st book is a blow. It was written with Dave Trigg in mind, who played that book on B'way.

I like the musical better than the movie as I think it tells the story better. But fer sure - the 1st book ain't for the weak-hearted or weak-chopped.

This may well be the next musical I get to play. It's for a children's theater that typically uses a really small orchestra and a small venue. I suspect I'll be taking a lot of stuff down an octave. If they want the stuff up maybe I'll bring my synth (JK,...mostly).

My daughter (ensemble) will be working up the show for the next few months. I won't see an MTI-provided book until a month before the performances start.

One thing to keep in mind is most if not everything "up there" that you have in the part is also covered by one of the keyboard players.

There's nothing wrong with doing 8vb if it'll help you play it clean and consistent.

Borrowing from Charlie Brown - "It's better to be the hero than the goat."

Very likely so. And this show has three intense keyboard books and so far only one keyboard player. So it's possible I'll be covering some of one of the keyboard books when I'm not blowing, real estate permitting.

While undeniably true there are always going to be those tunes where playing down an octave just sounds lousy.
