|
|
We are excited to announce the opening of a new trumpet shop in Chicago. This city has been closely linked to the trumpet and been the home of many custom builders, from mouthpiece makers like Frank Anglund and Charlie Allen to the great trumpet builders Reynold Schilke and Elden Benge. We hope to carry the legacy of high quality craftsmanship and serve the brass playing community locally and nation-wide.
Our shop is located in the historic Beverly neighborhood, and we offer everything from routine ultrasonic cleaning to full-service restoration. We are fully equipped to manufacture new and replica parts for the most obsolete instruments, and we have some incredibly talented craftsmen on our team. We also have an inventory of vintage and modern trumpets.
If you’d like to see some examples of our work and browse through our inventory, please check out our website: https://beverlymusicco.com/
Hours are currently by appointment (we will have regular hours in the near future), and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or if you’d like to stop by! _________________ Beverly Music Company

Well I wish you all the best in this venture.
I looked up the place in Google, and the Beverl Shear Mfg Corp building is certainly a hidden gem behind the blocked-up windows and steel door. That 50s motel next door reminds me of a place near where I grew up that rented by the hour.... (are those apartments today?)
As someone from greater Detroit, I have to admire anyone willing to venture into business in a "defund" community that, based on statistics and media, makes Detroit look safe. The building is something of a fortress, and the condition of the neighborhoods around indicate that this is not one of the higher crime areas, so I have high hopes for your ability to withstand the considerable negative forces for which Chicago is now known (yeah, I remember when Detroit was that poster-child. It sucks)
That last-of-the-SuperRecordings is a real find. Keep stocking gems like that and you will definitely draw the right kind of attention!
Are you exploring any potential synergies with the other daring brass man to call Chicago home, Miles O'Malley? _________________ Ron Berndt

Thank you for the kind words! The building next door has been converted into apartments, and we have sunk quite a bit of time into shining up the old Beverly Shear factory. The Beverly neighborhood is a real gem in the south side, and one that actively resisted many of the forces that undid once prosperous neighborhoods elsewhere in the city. The immediate area is a bit industrial, but the surrounding neighborhood is quite safe, and the community is comprised of teachers, public servants, and working-class people.
To answer your other question, Miles O'Malley is one of the partners in this business. Beverly Music shares the building and facilities with O'Malley Brass, which allows us to offer high end restoration and custom part fabrication in-house. The other two partners in Beverly Music are myself, Drew Morhun, and Victor Yuen, both recent graduates of the Eastman School of Music and avid enthusiasts of vintage brasswind instruments. _________________ Beverly Music Company

I took delivery yesterday on a Yamaha piccolo from Victor & Drew at Beverly. I had a great experience all around. I'm happy with the communication, the condition of the horn, packing and the speed of shipping, and the price. Asking around at Eastman I was told that Victor is an honest guy; if he says a horn is good, you can trust that.
I hope your shop is successful!

+1
Possibly Drew and Victor parted ways? The location appears to be in Atlanta, GA now...so maybe no Chicago location? _________________ https://bajocmusic.com/

My first impression, upon reading the ambitious announcement of the opening of the business: too many partners.
Having been a successful entrepreneur, owner of a couple businesses, I have experienced failed partnerships.

Hello folks, figured I'd reply to this thread and clear things up amidst some speculation. Beverly Music officially closed on the 1st of the year. We'd like to say thanks to everyone who supported the shop over the last two years. It was a privilege to serve the musical community in Chicago and to connect with so many trumpet players online. _________________ Beverly Music Company

Thanks, Drew. I'm glad you were around when I needed a picc last year. Best wishes to you and your colleagues.
