Anyone have this image ?
Anyone ever played on a NY 5B?

I purchased an ACB 5B and Trent mentioned it was based on the NY Bach specs. I purchased a used one here on TH in Modern blank but I’m also looking for one in Standard or Traditional blank if anyone has any for sale.

Thank you for the overlay. The rim contour looks almost identical or am I missing something? Maybe slightly flatter on the NY?

My understanding of scans is that they are “true” of only the particular example that was scanned. Any two mouthpieces with the same number could be slightly different for a number of reasons. Especially older ones made before CNC was invented.

To my eye the NY and modern 5B look pretty similar with the NY having a more pronounced inner edge. Each player will have their own thoughts whether that’s good or bad or even noticeable.

What I think I see is that the NY version has a flatter, more close to normal rim. The Elkhart has an exceptionally high spot right before it drops into the cup. That is what I find objectionable about the Bach 5c.

The NY still has a high spot but not as pronounced as the standard 5B.

You are just not going to see much difference with the eye. Our lips are so sensitive that we can easily feel differences we can hardly see.

Totally agree. I thought the NY was slightly flatter and had a more of a ‘dug out’ cup …more room for chops I would think
