|
|
I have a ~1953 F. Besson MEHA trumpet SN: 102669 trumpet which I have had for 5 years and I love. I had the valves redone about the time I purchased it, but I now have noticed that the leadpipe rot is starting to bubble in a few places on the outside of the silver plating. Has anyone out there had their MEHA leadpipe replaced? I would like to know what your experience was and how and who you had it done with. _________________ F. Besson MEHA silver trumpet (~1953)

I'd recommend that you get it cleaned. If it's a French Besson, there are no replacement parts and a new pipe would have to be filled and bent to the shape of the horn.
After it's cleaned, you can maintain it yourself, w/regular snake scrub outs and a few drops of valve oil down the pipe every day.
A lot less trouble. _________________ "Strive for tone." -John Coppola

If you're keen on replacing the leadpipe on your Besson, people like Josh Landress have F. Besson leadpipe copies from what I've heard and some other shops can probably fabricate a new leadpipe using your current leadpipe as an example (minus the red rot and other problems).
A shop in Europe made a copy of the leadpipe on my 1920s Besson Fabrication using the original as an example. |

Trumpet leadpipes aren't bent. |

Sorry, for some reason I saw "pocket trumpet" where it wasn't.
