Today my sister gave me my father's Bach Model 37. He loved Big Band music and Dixieland Jazz. I dated the serial number to 1974. Anyway, I played trumpet from the 4th grade until the 10th grade. I was never very good. Played third trumpet in the high school band. Sometimes 2nd. That was about 1969 or 1970. I went into the service, got out, raised a family, got divorced, remarried and finally retired just before Covid hit. I have been learning and taking lessons for diatonic harmonica ever since. Now that I have Dad's trumpet, I have decided I want to learn this as well. I have a friend who went to college on a trumpet scholarship and is very knowledgeable and willing to help me get started. Anyway, I am looking forward to the journey! I am retired, I'm 68 years old. I can do what I want! If the wife lets me. _________________ Bach Model 37 Inherited From My Dad. I took a 39-year break and when I told my wife I had blown $1500 on a trumpet, she looked at me like I was nuts. Within a year, she was talking me up like I was Clark Terry.
You're good to go. |

I spend a lot of time listening to Sonny Terry on harmonica. He was one of the greatest ever. Now I better include his brother! _________________ Bach Model 37 Inherited From My Dad. Serial Number ML 100211 |

Good luck with it! My wife and I both retired right before covid, too. I was not a very good trumpet player in high school, either, stuck on 3rd a couple years and on 2nd part my senior year. I went to a small university with no band program, so that was the end of my trumpet playing for a long time. I picked it back up years ago in a community band and am now a much better player than I ever was in my youth. Enjoy the ride! _________________ "Brass bands are all very well in their place - outdoors and several miles away ." - Sir Thomas Beecham |

I stopped playing for 50 years, started again at age 79 and now, 7 years later, I am as happy as a pig in s-----t. Go for it.

Thank you for the encouragement! This morning I watched a YouTube on cleaning the trumpet and ordered a cleaning brush kit from Amazon. I also watched a YouTube on playing the Blues Scale. _________________ Bach Model 37 Inherited From My Dad. Serial Number ML 100211 |

Just leave out the non-bold words and you're safe.
I'm 71. Laid off from age 18-40. Now, better than in my youth, but still struggle a lot.
I spend part of my time down the road from you in Cornelius. We should get together. _________________ Craig Mitchell |

Better be careful how you take that- Clark's been dead now for about 7 years... |

It's all good. I took her to see Steve Turre Saturday and we're going to see Takuya Kuroda next month. She says she's not quite a jazzhead yet, but she's enjoying the ride. |
