I've played enough horns as-is to know they don't usually need a gap adjustment. At least you don't think they do.
What lets you know that maybe it's something to look into? |
Bill Adam would listen for overtones but also the intonation around d/e in the staff. Flat d/e can often be fixed by increasing the gap.

The shank of the backbore. It goes in farther now and I have two Trent pieces that I'm experimenting with. As I said, I have found that Benge/ Calicchio respond to smaller gaps between mouthpiece and leadpipe. So we'll see, I'm sending them to ASP for replating and will continue the experiment of playing them when they come back. _________________ "Strive for tone." -John Coppola

I regularly play with a guy who plays GR mouthpieces cut for sleeves. He's told me the story about how he called the company and was told not to do it, but he seems happy with the path he's chosen. _________________ J. Notso Nieuwguyski |
