Hi there.
A couple of weeks ago I purchased a Selmer DeVille from my local Salvation Army store here in Melbourne, Australia. It is in great condition, and doesn't seem to have been played much. The serial number indicates it's a 1963/64 model. It had a name tag in the case, along with a stack of sheet music booklets and a registration card. The booklets are stamped with 'Bardstown High School' and the name tag reads 'Frank Rutledge, Bardstown, Kentucky.'

I just wanted to let Mr Rutledge know that a Norwegian dude (me) is currently blowing his horn every day in Australia, 60 years later.

Thank you Mr Rutledge.
Warm regards.
Hans

60 years ago? And how old was Mr. Rutledge when you bought the horn?

Oh, a word problem. Challenge accepted.

Assuming that Mr Rutledge bought the trumpet in high school and was in a four year high school in 1964, he was probably 14 - 18 years old. Add 60 Mr Rutledge is probably 74-78 years old.

Subtract a couple of weeks, since the OP bought the horn a couple of weeks ago at Salvation Army, he was probably 74-78 years old when the OP bought the horn.

Hope I did better than I did with word problems in school.
