Bach is suggesting I make my 19072g custom horn a 19072g mlv with a 44 pipe. Originally I was going to go with a 43 pipe on it and a standard taper and not a vindabona. What are your opinions of the 44 pipe vs the 43 pipe and the vindabona vs standard 72/43 horns?

The 44 pipe is no longer available. Apparently Bach discontinued this pipe a few years ago. I have not been able to find one for sometime now as I was also interested in pairing a 72* bell with this pipe. The closest thing is to have one custom-made from MK drawing out of nickel silver.

Sorry I guess I read your post to quickly initially but do you mean to say that Bach actually has the 44 pipe? That's news to me because everyone has been telling me that the pipe is no longer available so that is very odd.

Yes this is Bach offering to do the 44 pipe and a vindabonna. It was their suggestion not mine. I was going to go with a 43 pipe and a standard 72 bell. My contact at Bach mentioned this option today as an option for my horn they are making for me. I am getting a 72g bell.

The 44 is nickel and the 43 is yellow brass. 44 is tighter (smaller) than the 43, which is quite open and my favorite of Bach pipes. The 44 was allegedly a copy of the old Paris Selmer design, but I'm not sure of that.

As a Navy trumpet player, I played almost every configuration of Bach trumpets, including double-trigger versions. The stand out to me was the 72/43, especially the 72*/43.

Hope this helps...

Ben

The 43 leadpipe is what I will most likely go with. It will be a standard weight 72g gold brass bell though. Looking for a darker richer tone. Also will be in lacquer to show off the bell color and the two piece valve casing and the nickle silver trim.
