What's the best source for valve felts in various sizes?

https://www.jlsmithco.com/product-category/for-brass/parts-for-brass/valve-washers/

With a little work you can do your own PVA with the felts here.

Thanks, I've got many that need them to align & that's a great source. Too confusing and not precise buying generics on ebay.

Interesting related story. I had valves aligned on one of my horns at a local shop. They've done work of that type for me before with no problem. However on the latest horn, I had some issues. I discovered that I depressed one of the valves maybe a little too hard and when doing so went past optimal position on the down stroke.

I talked it over with the technician and they installed different spacers (all synthetic, as that's all I ever get) and the problem was solved. Makes me wonder about stories I hear where the player says the horn was worse after an alignment.

What did they originally put in it? Doesn't make sense you could go past with proper cork and felt installed. Most of the ones I've run into problems with are not enough spacers for the upstroke, likely removed for cleaning and either broke(the corks) or forgot to reinstall.

If they used the synthetic foam that most use for alignments, it comes in a few firmness options, so they maybe have opted for a soft foam for quietness, but needed to go slightly thicker to account for the finger pressure.

That would explain it.
