FWIW..."Send in the Clowns" is NOT a Maynard tune...it was done by Kenton's band!

I heard Derek Watkins accompanied by the Buy As You View brass band in the Royal Albert Hall a couple of years ago playing an arrangement by Stephen Rockey of Macarthur Park......started off with flugel and then switched to trumpet for the upbeat section ....he was awesome |

To the best of my knowledge, Maynard has never recorded a version of Send in the Clowns...
If you're thinking about the Dave Barduhn version from the album Kenton '76, the high note solo was played by John Harner...Jay Sollenberger played it on some of the later live Kenton recordings. |

Hey Coolhorn,
I'm familiar with Harner's solo on Kenton '76 but wasn't aware of the live versions played by sollenberger. What are the titles of those recordings please. |

There's a live video from '77 just called "Artistry in Rhythm" where it's the first tune they play. I'm pretty sure it was a live concert in Ontario, Canada...I haven't found any CD's with Jay playing it yet, but they keep releasing new material all the time, epecially concerts from everywhere under the sun in the late 70's, when Sollenberger was on the band...if it's on the video, I'm sure there are other recordings too.
There was also a Dave Barduhn Big Band recording in the early 80's that had "Clowns" on it, but I can't remember who the soloist was on that recording...never got the chance to buy it...out of print too. |

I might be almost 20 years late but I've got both of these charts if you're still interested |
