This is also part of the Mosaic Box Set, just another fantastic recording of Maynard in his prime. Ole' will stay with you a long time. The power, range, and emotion are all there. Chet Ferretti, Bill Berry, Rolf Ericson are the trumpets. Also, Joe Farrell on tenor, Jaki Byard on Piano. Lanny Morgan on Alto. All to become true Giants. Joe Farrell has a chart, "Ultimate Rejection" that features Jaki Byard and Lanny Morgan. Very interesting. Joe Farrell died too soon. Maynard plays some French Horn on this as well. More or less. Slide Bone as well, not valve. I think he went back to valve bone after this. Marty Paich, Gordon Jenkins, Don Sebesky, Slide Hampton all have charts on this. Fabulous Jazz recording!

Dave,
This must be that thing I'm now going through that I noticed my parents feeling when they hear some lame Pat Boone tune...what's it called? Oh, yeah...nostalgia. Your right, this was/is a great Maynard recording and the first of a long line of recordings by this important player that I ever purchased. I also doesn't hurt that I heard him and band play all these charts live as well.
