Hi Derek, I just wanted to say really nice work, these section listings are SO VERY interesting and just what made my day. I was just wondering, even though you still are working on this at the time, if you'd be thinking of compiling it into a history or reference book? You are the awesome!!!

Roger,

Quote:
If we could take the "Major" out of the heading of this post, I'm sure other TH'ers who work playing the trumpet for a living might offer their own info about the orchestras they work in...

My intent with this project is to eventually include as many orchestras as possible, and pass the ownership of individual groups over to the players that perform in those ensembles. This would allow the project to grow and each ensemble could be updated each year by the players in the section.

For now though, based on time issues, what you see is what you get.

Alison,

I’m glad you’re enjoying the project!

John Cage,

Thanks for the links. Unfortunately, most of them are so difficult for me to navigate that I can never find the names of the trumpet players.

Giangiulio was in the Israel Phil for a few years. It was after he studied with Andre in France for a couple years. That was his first orchestral job I believe.

You could put the San Antonio Symphony or Austin Symphony in if you wanted another group from TX. Grew up there and the ones you would hear about are the two above and then of course Dallas and Houston.

You should put the Florida Orchestra. I'm surprised you have Florida West Coast Sym. and not the Florida Orchestra. Just a suggestion...

cheldt1 and sjtrumpet,

Thanks for the feedback. I haven’t been doing much with this project lately. When I get back to adding new groups to the list I’ll certainly look into the ensembles that you’ve listed.

Thanks,

I’ve wondered about the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. I looked up information about the group in the past and didn’t see that they had a trumpet player listed in their personnel: Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble.

They have worked with many trumpet soloists in the past. I found that William Houghton (Principal Trumpet with the BBC Symphony Orchestra) is listed as the Principal Trumpet with St. Martin in the Fields (here). I’ll have to do some investigation on this ensemble.

SF,

Clearly they should be on our list. I'll gather what information I can and post it in the Historical Rosters folder later this week. Do you happen to know who was in the Principal chair before Fred Sautter?

No, I have no idea. I know the section right now is Jeffrey Work; Principal, David Bamonte; Assistant Principal, Micah Wilkinson.

Bill Houghton retired over a year ago from the BBC and the ASM.
Michael Laird is still the regular 2nd with the Academy and by now they may have found a principal

Thanks Michael. I'll look into this ensemble again. Maybe I'll contact Bill Houghton or Michael Laird to see if they can help.
