Tongue Tying

Hey there Barnyard Buddies,

Ole' Jimmy is having some trouble. I need to play this fancy piece called L'Histoire doo Soldat. There are these groups of five notes that go really fast. How to you tongue that? Please vote for the approach I should try....and feel free to give any technical explanations, including practice methods, that you think may be helpful!

Hey crew,

Yeah, I voted for the all ku tonguing. It actually works like a charm. I discovered the dominance of all ku tonguing in my lesson yesterday with John Mohan. Granted, I was basically teaching him, but it was fun nonetheless. I feel confident in my new found ability to play Cats. Off to shed for NSO#6. Maybe if you guys had been ku tonguing at the previous auditions, we wouldn't see ourselves in the current predicament. Oh well, live and learn, I guess.

Sorry I didn't see your post sooner!

You're confused - I wanted you to work on ga-ga tonguing. It's worked out so well for a previous student of mine named Lady.

Good luck in NY Phil finals! If you win can I have your current job?

The solo in Cats is cake compared to that menace for Into the Woods.

To the OP I've found that after you've spent enough time playing Clarke with all articulation models [single-tongue, slur-all, slur2-tongue2, double-tongue, triple-tongue (where it makes sense) and K-tongue] then you can pretty much improvise the tonguing pattern for most any lick.

This rather reminds me of guitar players going over flatpicking. In the end, you do it how you do it, as it comes naturally You have to play to your strengths and all that matters is whether or not it's played correctly.
