I picked up a Getzen Eterna flugelhorn recently and really like it. The only thing that I am having trouble with is that when I play C below the staff and the 1st B below the staff I cannot hold the note without it garbling. I can play the notes as passing tones, but when I try to sustain it, it is nearly impossible for me. This happens no matter what mouthpiece I try (including trumpet mouthpieces).

Any one else have this issue? Is it me or the horn? How can I correct it?

I think it may be one of 2 things...
1) Wrong tampered Mouthpiece
or
2) Something is wrong with the leadpipe.. Mine came in with the wrong leadpipe & I had to order a new Leadpipe.. I think it cost me $25 for a new Flugel Leadpipe.

I would also fgive it a good Chem Cleaning to make sure something isnt stuck in it..

How could I determine if the leadpipe is the right one?

It really could be a number of things but I would check all the passageways, tubing etc to make sure there isn't anything sitting in there causing unwanted turbulance (sp?). You might get in touch with Getzen and see if they have any ideas. I know some times there is junk not cleaned out and it can cause trouble. If you don't have mirrors and a light you might have your repair person look at it. Mark
