Lately I have been working on closing up my aperature to play a bit more efficiently in the upper register. I have been extremely pleased with the results that I have been getting (I used to play with a HUGE aperature), but once in a while I notice an extraneous fuzzy vibration when I am descending from a high passage down into the high C region. Any ideas on what this could be or how to eliminate it? _________________ -Bach Model 37* Bb 177xxx, Reverse Lead Pipe, Reeves aligned.

Can you put up an mp3 somewhere? Hard to say without hearing it. |

Without hearing you, I would guess that you're relaxing the lips too much when descending (perhaps opening them up?) and/or not backing off the airflow enough, overblowing your chops just a bit. When you descend, you must not lose control just because it's "easier"... Listen to your tone as you descend, and keep it good! It's amazing how well we can play if we just focus on the sound and follow it.

Thanks, I will experiment a bit with the relaxation idea. It kind of sounds like there is a bit of spit caught between my lips and it is vibrating at a seperate harmonic. It's weird. _________________ -Bach Model 37* Bb 177xxx, Reverse Lead Pipe, Reeves aligned.

A slight change in embouchure setup can result in a double buzz (where the lips vibrate out of phase with each other). This sounds likely according to your description. This is probably a natural part of your adjustment period. Do a search here with 'double buzz' as your keywords and you will find a wealth of information.
