|
|
Mendez recorded 12 LPs for Decca.
He recorded eight 78 rpm records for Coast.
He recorded a LP of the Arban single tongue exercises for Carl Fischer.
He recorded dozens of 78s for Azteca, Pan American, and Capitol.
AFTER HE RETIRED, HE HAD ONE PARTICULAR FAVORITE RECORDING WHICH HE WOULD PROUDLY PLAY FOR ANY TRUMPET PLAYERS WHO WOULD VISIT HIM AT HIS HOME. WHICH ONE DO YOU THINK IT WAS?

Not saying you are right or wrong, but what makes it so obvious?
Just wondering.

I dont know... it just seems like the obvious choice!
The question was "AFTER HE RETIRED, HE HAD ONE PARTICULAR FAVORITE RECORDING WHICH HE WOULD PROUDLY PLAY FOR ANY TRUMPET PLAYERSWHO WOULD VISIT HIM AT HIS HOME. WHICH ONE DO YOU THINK IT WAS?"
So i read it as, what is a record he only played for trumpet players? You wouldnt try to impress chicks with single tonguing... _________________ Yamaha 6310Z - 14B4

Nice job, Jansu.
Because Mendez' only weakness was his single tonguing, he worked very hard to be able to record the Arban single tongue exercises (pgs. 28-36). Even though the speed on the recording is not all that fast by most people's standards, he was very proud of it.
He always said that he turned a weakness into a strength. That is, he had to develop a very steady and controlled double tongue at an early age. He claimed that this gave him an almost effortless ability to play extremely fast as an adult. (Kinda makes one think we should be teaching beginners to double tongue from the start, huh? )
