In a few days, I will demonstrating the trumpet at a recruiting thing for future band students (in 5th grade now).

This includes a brief explanation of the instrument and how one produces a sound and so on, and a little solo to give an example.

I figure that kids will be most impressed by things that they know, things that sound fast, or things that sound really difficult...

"Wow! I want to play that!"

I find Arban Characteristic Study #5 to sound quite interesting, and think it may meets these requirements.

I won't be able to have it "perfected" by Monday night, but should be able to at least play it somewhat convincingly.

Anyhow, I was juts curious if many of you use alternate fingerings for some of the stuff (most specifically the As and Es in the first part - the part that also concludes the piece). If so, do you use those same other fingerings starting around the end of the 4th line through that section?

Just curious mostly. I can certainly experiment with these on my own, but just want to hear what others do.

Thanks,
~Benjamin Heintz
