I play a late '60's ( i think) Couesnon Monopole. The sound and intonation is great except for the low register...Upper range is almost not there! I might try a medium deep cup to fix that. I do want a four valve flugel, best if I didn't have to go to the large bore size.

I am using a Wild Thing with a custom made Monette 1-5 flugel mouthpiece in the french taper fitting. I don't know how the WT compares to the Kanstuls as I know they are related. I did play a big Kanstul one once and the WT seems to have a finer less trombone like tone.

Has anyone heard of Kruspe Flugels? I have one with rotary valves...and while it is nice converstion piece, I just ordered a Kanstul 1525. I use the Kruse for solo church work, but it is not much good for anything else.

Jupiter 846RL flugel/ GR 64FL
Amrein 8121S trumpet, rodium tipped bell/ G4MS and or Kelly 7C

honorable mention:
Selmer Chorus 80J (matte finish)
Kanstul Chicago ML (laquer)
Holton TM2000 (gold plate, later the T-105)

not so honorable:
a rough old Harwood "Professional" trumpet sold by Jenkins Music, KCMO-- 1920s or so. Origin of make still a question.

no cornet at this time, but this bothers me;

It's all here (and more!) on my Gearhead Site:

Don't play it much, but when it comes out of the closet it is a Lawler. I use a Warburton 3FL . Same rim as I use with my C7. The Lawler flugel has a more precise trpt "feel" to the pitches than most flugels. The pitch doesn't wander like a lot of flugels wihich makes for a secure blow.

I think this is the 1st mention of the Marcinkiewicz "Fluegel," Canby OR, with its patented Shepherd's crook design; I opted for the rose brass bell under lacquerless silver & gold & extended length valve options. Current mpc is the Curry 1.5FL. With a small mouthpiece, it is "airy/French;" w/the big Curry, warm, rich, pure American sound. It is probably the priciest flugelhorn on the planet [I got mine from Joe M in a barter deal (I wrote all his patents prior to my day job retirement)]. BUT, it also has none of the notorious-flugel-intonation problems. IMHO, like Porsche ad says: ".... There is no substitute."

I play an old Yamaha student model because it plays easier and more in tune than the two other brand pro model horns I used to have. If I were to buy another it would be a top of the line Sam Ashe [B&S] like my wife has. Dave
p.s. I play on a Reeves 42 f mouthpiece [why change size from my cornet and trumpet, Iam confused enough].

I play:

a Courtois 155R: due to a huge bell, it spreads well the sound, mellow but well defined (with a Denis Wick 4F mouthpiece). Good intonation.

a Hub van Laar Oiram: smaller bell, the most beautiful flugel sound I've ever heard: dark (very dark!) and smokey, extraordinary intonation (I've never used the the third valve trigger...), the best and fastest valves (Bauerfeind) of all flugels I've played, an outstanding easiness of playing (with a Denis Wick 4FL mouthpiece)

I play on a Jupiter 846RL as well as a Yamaha 6310 Flugelhorn. The Jupiter is basically a copy of my worn out 731 Yamaha except in lacquer.
