Anyone here ever heard of or played the Phillip Sparke Concerto for trumpet and brass band? I just did, and all I can say is WOW!! What a piece of art!! Does anyone else have an opinion on it?

Andy,
The Sparke Concerto was written for trumpet, or cornet with brass band. I did a review of the piece for the International Trumpet Guild Journal in June of 2000. I have also performed the piece with the Brass Band of Columbus on several occasions.
I really like the music of Sparke. It is challenging technically but offers a highly developed melodic structure.
Let me know if I can help.

kingd,
I would love to have a copy of your review. Also, do you happen to have a recording of the piece? I have not heard any recordings of it at all. I heard Bernie Black perform the piece with the River City Brass Band when it was debutted, but I haven't heard any recordings. |
