Good post, Dave! I keep forgetting to throw in my 1/2 cent... So, here it is!

(1) The "wind" in Song and Wind is to remind us that it's air in motion, not just air, that does the work.

(2) Most of the time I poop out at the end (or middle... ) of a piece I realize (not infrequently because my teacher points it out) that it's because I haven't taken in enough air. I keep (re)discovering that I need to breath more deeply, and more often, to keep good sound through a phrase. And to keep from pushing my mpc to the back of my head. If there's no air for the sound to ride on, your body will find some way to make the notes come out, usually by reducing the aperture size to use a smaller airflow, usually by mouthpiece pressure to flatten the lips.

(3) I all too often find myself stopping the air when articulating. The analogy of myteacher and I (he started it, I added the faucet part, much to my dismay!) is that tonguing is like flicking your finger through a stream of water from a facuet. It is NOT like turning the faucet on and off!

FWIW - Don

Geez,

I need to get my eye sight checked.

I thought you were talking about what Dizzy used to always say helped him play high.
